  • In typical swimming meets where a swimmer may race several times over 50m-400m in the space of a few hours a pre-race snack is generally unnecessary and potentially detrimental. While pre-race and in-race fuelling may support the energy demands of much longer open water events, scientific evidence suggests they may be counterproductive for short events if eaten too close to the start.
