Johnstone possesses ASCA’s highest coaching award and has been our Director of Swimming since the club’s formation. A graduate from Loughborough University, masters in Exercise physiology and Sports Medicine under Professor Ernst Jokl at the University of Kentucky, doctoral studies in Biomechanics and Sports Medicine under Professor Wolfgang Bauman at the German Sports University in Cologne (DSHSK), former Senior Lecturer in Sports Science and Course Leader at the University of Roehampton, in retirement still retains an appointment as a Supply Bank Lecturer at the University of the HIghlands and Islands, life-long competitive swimmer having most recently won two bronze medals at the World Masters Championships in Doha in 2024 - we are in safe and knowledgeable hands!

Susan is a Level 1 qualified coach with ASCA and is currently working towards their specialist Strength & Conditioning certification. A Chartered Physiotherapist with additional accreditation in Pilates and Tai Chi for Health, in her professional life Susan works as an executive director, practicing physio and tutor for Corefitness Studios Ltd. European Masters 50m Butterfly gold medallist in 2018, she continues to compete both in Masters and Open events. The club is very fortunate to have her on board as our Land Training Coach.
